Posting for a buddy. He has a 97 Mercury 175 with EFI. He was running rough water on Raybob Friday and his motor shut-off and now wont start. It seems to be getting fire to plugs and fuel everywhere. Any help would be great !!

Check main engine harness unplug and plug back together. Also take a razor knife wihile unplugged and if the male pin has a slot carefully spread pin slightly if it has a three sided pin do not attempt to spread. reason to spread is they lose contact and will lose 12 volts. Also unplug the ECM harness and replug. Just simple stuff to start with. Hope this helps....OPTI

This may sound simple and a little sarcastic, but have you checked the kill switch? I almost ran the battery down trying to crank my motor before it dawned on me to check the kill switch. It was down just a little but enough to not let the motor crank. Pulled the cord out and re-installed and it cranked up.

Check the fuel filter for water and hope he didn't get a slug of water into the engine. Happened to me a few years back running in rough water, not fun. Lost a cylinder
