SUCKS!!!!!!!!

My Mom had a small spot on her nose that we had biopsied which came back as Basal Cell. I came to New Mexico to take her to a Mohs Surgeon and we had the procedure done on Saturday. A Mohs Surgeon will cut out what they think and will test it on the spot to see if they have removed all the cancer cells so it is the best procedure in most cases. Usually they will get it all in 2 to 3 tries (stages). Wellllllllllll........ in my Mom's case, they had to do 10 tries (stages) before she was clear and it was only after they de-skinned the right side of her nose, over the majority of the top of the nose and up the bridge. Thank God it had not gone towards her eyes. We are doing a skin graph on Tuesday so any prayers for her would be greatly appreciated. The surgeon said that it had probably been in her for over ten years but we only knew it was there when one small spot broke through. She also said it was due to sun exposure.

So please wear your coverings and use sunscreen when fishing or when needed and make sure your family is protected too.

This ordeal has certainly changed the way I feel about skin cancer and protecting myself!!!!

My paternal grandmother fought Melanoma for almost 30 years. My sisters and I carry the gene (we know this thanks to genetic testing). I dealt with a mole trying to become melanoma when I was 18, my sister has had melanoma and no evidence of disease for 7 years as of last week, my niece had an atypical mole trying to become melanoma like I did last year, she too was 18.

Skin cancer is very real. Blue Lizard is an excellent sunscreen...recommended to my sister by her dermatologist.

Your message is totally on point, it's very important to take sun exposure seriously. Wide brimmed hats, long sleeves, gloves, sunscreen and reapply it often...and yes, masks/buffs.

that is what caused the hole in the top of my head, 38 divots now and waiting on another appt. to have some more removed.
