we watched the modern version last night
i didn't watch the abuse part
but once they got into the wilderness
it was a great story

I liked it.
The CGI animals were prevalent, probably 98%.
I believe I saw "1" real animal.
Regardless, I like "wilderness" movies.
I give it 3.5 of 5 frozen dog sleds!
