So many people advertise super tuning.
The question is are they really super tuning or are the slapping some upgraded bearings and maybe some upgraded drag washers.
I use to do true super tuning witch takes about 3 hours per reel. It works on older reels but the newer ones it's hard to make them better than they are.

Then ask yourself is this what I'm actually getting for the money.
Something else to think about is reel cleaning, are they tearing my reel down to the frame and really cleaning and inspecting ever part. Something to think about.
I have seen a lot of people come and go since 2002. I'm not looking to drum up business as it's more of a hobby and dont do as much as I use to. I just dont like to see guys get taken advantage of. There are good guys on this forum and business that do excellent work. Just be careful.

So would my old Curado e7's be a good candidate for Super Tuning? I have so many new reels and like you said they are really nice but have often wondered about fixing my old ones that "nothing" is wrong with.

It seems some folks think slapping in a couple (or however many) spool bearings is all it takes. I do all my own reels and my old Shimano CU200s take me at a minimum 3+ hours. I use that time as a stress reliever from my day job. I keep a log of each reel, when I cleaned it last, what line is on it, bearing type installed, what has been replaced. Last year I did some testing with my old greenies. I installed Bocas in one reel, some ceramic hybrids from Dads Ole Tackle in another, all stainless from DoT in another and then replaced all the bearings in one using the 13 Fishing ceramic bushings (had to do some fitting on the thickness of the spool bushing that goes behind the pin). I have to say, the one with all ceramic is now super smooth but the standard ceramic hybrids from Dads Ole Tackle are hard to beat in my opinion. What are your bearings of choice these days ? I just picked up a Chronarch CH100D7 that I'm about to go through a cleaning and bearing replacement.

What exactly classifies as super tuning to you? I’m just curious, I’ve heard it as bearings + drag washers + polished internals. Would you agree, or is your definition different?
What exactly gets polished on the inside of the reels? Why can’t new reels benefit from super tuning?
I’ve acquired an older Chronarch last year that the previous owner claims they had super tuned. They claim it has Boca ABEC7 bearings, Carbontex drag washers, and polished internals. I don’t have any documentation or anything to back that up, but I got a reasonable deal on it and it will cast a mile.

Dads ole Tackle has great bearings and have used them for years.
I have bought alot bearings throughout the years. I try and buy in bulk in the past through China.
JR, The items that get polished all friction points. Spool shaft, brake drum, inside pinion gear, main shaft, main gear, inside cast control knob ect. This is on the older CU 200b Curado's. Other reels very.

Thanks Shawn ! I've been ordering parts from Dads ole Tackle now for a little over 2 years. Their customer service is fantastic and (mostly due to proximity to where I live and their shop), I can place an order in the morning and the parts arrive in the next day's mail.

How much should a pair of abec7 spool bearings for a Shimano Curado 200e reel cost?
