My original post I was going to be staying in Matagorda, but a buddy of mine got sick and the party was cut just to 2 of us now. With that being said we changed plans and booked a place in Rockport. More specifically around Copono Bay, but I am thinking about putting in closer to Aransas pass and fishing that. Anyone have any opinions? I live flounder fishing so thought the pass and areas closer to it may be where I need to focus, but I don’t mind fishing flats either. I am just a newbie to the TX coast as I come originally from the East coast where we do not have the flats like TX. Mainly we would stay on the ICW and fish docks and creeks off the ICW. Any opinions or advise is appreciated. On a second note, my graph is GPS enabled so I’m hoping that will help with navigation, I’m just weary of running on plane in the shallow waters even though I have a bay boat.

If you tune intoTexas fishing Tips on youtube, they focus on the Aransas Pass area, Rockport, etc.... I've had a lot of success following their tips.

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

If you're boat isn't a really shallow running boat and/or you're not experienced running across the flats be careful. If you have GPS you can go on Google Earth before you go and locate the cuts and make some waypoints where to travel (and fish). Also if you want to fish the pass keep winds/waves in mind. Not sure when you will be going but from now through the next week it's going to be hard to fish the cut with swells this weekend 3-4 and 4-5 next week. Launching at Cove Harbor in Rockport and fishing the ICW for flounder is not a bad play. You are also close to Estes flats if you want to fish for reds, trout and drum. We found some trout recently on the east side of the island (outside of Estes flats).

Thank you all. I have been watching the Texas Fishing Tips on YouTube and they are great. Jerry, I’ve been keeping an eye on weather and it looks like the pass is out for me unfortunately with the wind gusts they are predicting. I will for sure be going on the graph for some way points. After looking and studying for what em feels like forever, I have a good idea of how I will run everything with the boat. I will for sure be taking it easy until I get pretty confident. I’m just hoping for semi clear water and good fishing.

You’re wasting your time going south. Way too many people down there these days on a weekend. I’d go north, especially since you’re near Copano.

Will there be a lot of people? Hell yes it's a summer weekend at the coast. Is it a waste of time? Absolutely not. There's plenty of water to fish.
