I caught my PB catfish (24.8 lbs) the other day and I’m torn on if it’s a blue or a big channel. The lake I caught it in isn’t known for having too many blues. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/06/full-91712-55646-8da81927_30a6_4b63_81aa_7e4eb894cc4b.png)

Humpback blue! Also you can tell by examining the anal fin......On the anal fin of the blue cat if you stretch out the fin you will notice that the fin appears more straight and the number of rays are between 30 and 36 if you count them. On the Channel the anal fin appears more rounded and the rays are under 30. Coloration is another as the channel has more of a brownish tone and younger channels have spots while the larger channels the spots disappear in most larger fish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nrzv8KT8s4

PB flathead 34.5 lbs - I know it's small but it was still the record for Lake Travis when I caught it! PB Blue 58.5 lbs jugline 43.5 lbs on R&R which was the other Lake Travis record when caught.

Thanks guys I was fairly sure it was a blue but I’ve only heard stories here and there about blues in the lake I was on and I know larger channels lose their spots and can some times pickup a more grayish color so I thought I’d ask for some clarification

People start those stories that there are no blues in a certain lake, and then people are shocked when someone reports catching them. They grow to mammoth size in some lakes and are fun to catch!
