I would have to stay right here on little ole Callender Lake in East Texas. Close to town but in the country and plenty of bass, crappie, and cat fish for any one.

If you wanna catch a bunch of big fish Del Rio is hard to beat (Amistad), not sure if I could handle the "quality of life" though. Have fun in retirement.

The two biggest adjustments you have to make to live in Del Rio are: 1. Realize that no one, absolutly no one, is in a hurry to do anything. We call this "manana land". Manana doesn't mean tomorrow, either, it just means "not today". 2. Learn to drive with one hand on top of the steering wheel, so you can return all the waves you get from total strangers as you are driving down the road. I've lived here for almost a year and a half, and I absolutely love it!
If you're lucky enough to live by the lake...you're lucky enough

I am thinking Texoma, plenty of fish, lots of water, close to family. I would have to have lakefront with a dock, that may be hard to get on Texoma.

Fork would be hard to beat - just wish it was closer to Rockport.

I'm gonna hafta say Port Mansfield. No crowds(yet) and hundreds of square miles of beautiful shallow water.

Venice, LA...First cast, bass - trout on the second and a red on the third. All in the same spot. And the best YFT fishing in the gulf. I'm not moving there until they build a Chipotle restaurant though. May be a waiting a while.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I live about 30 seconds from San Augustine lake where they caught a share a lunker last year. That also puts me 15-30 minutes depending on where I launch from both Rayburn and Toledo. 30 minutes to Pinkston. About 35-40 minutes to both Lake Nacogdoches and Murval.
Not bad at all as far as fishing is concerned.
