Can we throw the kayaks in them? Has anyone done it before?

[s][/s]There’s plenty of city parks on major lakes in my neck of the woods, and I see people kayaking there all the time.

If you are talking about city parks with smaller ponds, you may want to call the city parks and rec department to ask for specifics because that will vary city by city. Some cities are fine with boats and kayaks of all kind (depending on the size of the body of water and environmental factors), some will allow human propulsion or electric motor boats (and kayaks), and some will outright ban any and all boat traffic and even fishing from the bank.

If you can name any specific city parks you want to try, that would be a lot more helpful in order for members here at TFF that may have experience at any of the city parks you would like to go to answer specifics.

Sorry about that, in Mansfield/Arlington. In the little city parks there are done good size ponds I’d like to get to the other side of.

I've called and asked a few times. Didn't get a clear yes or no. I think that's a liability issue that hasn't been figured out yet. Kayak fishing has exploded in popularity and city rules haven't caught up.

I assume that it's okay unless posted otherwise. For example, Irving explicitly states you can't enter the waters of the canal system.

I had the same question about a pond near my house. I emailed Park and recs and they sent me an email back the same day.

She said they had never had such a request before, but she did not think it would be an issue. She said to go ahead and save her email and her name and if anybody gave me a hard time to have them call her to discuss.

Her title was director of Parks and recreation so I supposed that would be a good thing to do. I put my kayak on that pond in question a few times and nobody is ever questioned me about it.

I never see anyone kayaking in the ponds around Flower Mound. The ponds in the subdivisions surrounded by houses are covered by HOA rules which prohibit them. The golf courses also prohibit them from their ponds.

That is because most if not all of the ponds in flower mound are not city parks or city property. I am very familiar with the flower mound area but I’m also unaware of any city parks there with public ponds. It seems like most of the cities that have public city parks with ponds are the older cities or the cities further on the outer fringes of the metroplex. Most of flower mound is new development and the vast majority of all of the ponds there are going to belong to an HOA.

Lewisville. It is a city park...it is not a pond in a subdivision or anything like that. However it is the type of spot where you get odd looks launching a kayak into.

It sucked. Which is kind of what I expected.

I did want to give it a try though and have an opportunity to graph it.

A good friend of mine got a thumbs-up answer from Carrollton parks regarding a specific pond as well.

So I would say, it doesn't hurt to ask the question.

I would definitely go the route of sending an email versus calling. That way if you do get an affirmative answer you can save that email should anyone question you.
