Maybe a complete waste time, but has anyone ever gone jug fishing with soft plastics?

Nope. Doubt it would work.
PB flathead 34.5 lbs - I know it's small but it was still the record for Lake Travis when I caught it! PB Blue 58.5 lbs jugline 43.5 lbs on R&R which was the other Lake Travis record when caught.

I have always either used lived bait or cut bait on jugs. I do not think you would get good results using artificial baits. Just my two cents.

I just think species you might target with jugs would prefer real bait. Ye sc I have caught catfish while flipping plastics but that is more of an exception.

Interesting query. Not sure about plastics or such, but here is an interesting twist. I have one bass fisherman on Lake Conroe that uses my Catfish Calendar for catching Yellows, using spoons. I have no idea of size or color. But he found that by using the calendar on YC days (from the Calendar's 4 sigs) and/or my PYC days (the underlying pattern of the Yellows), he quit wasting time fishing for Yellows at any other times.
I myself have caught cats on shiny hooks, especially yellow/gold ones, before I put the bait on them. So if they hit the new shiny ones, as werll as spoons, then there might be a connection to either a flitter by sight or perhaps a sound.
