I am no biologist/scientsist, but it appears as if golden algae is back in the Brazos watershed. Fished Lake Granbury this morning for striper and there were dead baitfish and carp floating everywhere around the lake. Ocassionally you would see a random striper or sandbass as well. Unfortunately those lakes just cant catch a break it seems.

For those of you fishing Whitney and hammering on them, you may want to get out there as many times as possible in the next few days before it eventually works downstream (assuming thats what it is).

most likely something else. Golden algae blooms are more conducive to cooler water temps and little to no water movement during the cooler weather months and a stained or orange tint to the water

Have lived on Granbury since 1993 and each year around this time have seen more dead fish, Do not know cause but suspect it is a temperature chang along with a stable level and very much increase I n boat traffic. lived through the golden algae and 12 drop in level and do not see it at this time. BRA address the observation ASP pleaseto stop needed rumors.

We have some shad and a few gamefish floating at PK.
Hopefully isolated and small.
Fish were biting and chasing very healthy shad most places on lower end of lake.
People were catching. So if we have GA its isolated for now.

I saw a big dead carp in Neely. Hard to believe a dead shad would stay on the surface at PK long enough for you to see it with all the cow birds. They have been working Neely Slough hard as fish push the shad schools to the surface.

Brazos River Authority posted on Facebook that it has confirmed golden algae at PK but they believe it is isolated. Water tests at Granbury were inconclusive but they do not think it is golden algae.

Well like I said, I am not a biologist. However, seeing some of the same signs as the prior algae blooms (foamy yellow bubbles in mulitple different spots, dead baitfish and multiple gamefish appearing to be struggling on the surface) on the same lake makes it hard to think it could be anything else.

I sure hope its not, as the fishing has been pretty good on Granbury. Not to mention all the striper fingerlings and fry that have been stocked there recently.

They announced today that lab tests confirmed it is golden algae in Granbury.

I hope the hot weather gets rid of it.

Yep, PK can't catch a break. First the gates are open for two consecutive months last year, dumping a measurable # of stripes down the river and now Golden Algae !
Time to start fishing crappie.

Crappie has been on fire, but a friend told me yesterday that there are thousands of crappie dead and floating from Rock Creek to Caddo. We saw a couple of baitfish and one crappie floating in Cedar Creek arm on Sunday and didn't think anything about it, till I started hearing this. The crappie were only 6' down in the timber and I kept thinking that was odd, because at Ray Roberts and Aquilla they are all down deep.

According to a post in the Open Freshwater Discussion, golden algae has been confirmed at Granbury.
