Smallmouth buffalo or largemouth buffalo? We dont see these much. Thanks in advance.

It appears to be a black buffalo (Ictiobus niger), but it could be a smallmouth buffalo (Ictiobus bubalus). It is difficult to tell accurately from the picture. Where was it caught?
