I’ve had a BGE for 3-4 years now. I think it is the absolute best for searing steaks.
I think it absolutely sucks for smoking meat.

Overall the seals don’t hold worth a damn, I’ve had to reseal it twice. I’ve also gone through three temp gauges.

Am I wrong?

I’ve never had one, mainly because of the cost, but that’s the first negative thing I’ve heard about them

First I’ve heard this.

IMO, they are too efficient for top quality smoking.
For that clean, blue smoke, you want a small, hot fire with real wood, not a slowly smoldering lump of coals.

I disagree. I cook on my egg four nights a week. I've never replaced the seal or temp gauge. You don't get the same smoke ring as a stick burner. But the meat quality is just as good to me. Never had any complaints.

I too cook on mine 4-5 nights a week. It’s a great grill, but I don’t like the smoker function.
I can’t control the temp at all, like they claim you can.

I am going to sell it and get a Traeger. That is truly set it and forget it.

Cooking drama, I like old school cooking

call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

Run a BBQ Guru on the BGE for smoking. I've used them on a friend's WSM and it held temp all day without touching it.
They make a fan adapter specifically for the BGE.

Why cant you control the temp? I open the bottom and top about a 1/2" and it stays 225 for hours without any adjustment.

Yep, mine runs the same. I add a little wood in there for some smoke. I use it mostly for grilling an cooking pizza. When I want smoked meat, I use the offset with oak and pecan.

I bought one. I agree with the OP. Got tired of fooling with it and sold it.

I would choose my Pitboss 820 over it any day.

I have trouble controlling temp on my BGE. Every time I smoke something, it’s different. Sometimes it’s goes fine, other times it’s a disaster and it doesn’t matter what I do, I can’t control the temp.

It’s definitely not as easy as they claim it is.

Like Dawg, I can’t justify the cost. Heck I can buy 5 or 6 Weber kettles for the cost of a BGE.

Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I don't think they suck at all, just ended up not being for me.

They don’t suck, I like it, I just haven’t mastered it.
