Fished Oak Creek for the first time in 20 years yesterday. My family had a place there as a kid. What was the deal with all of the kayaks? I swear there must have been 200. Everyone was courteous, so I am not griping. I am just curious on what was going on.
FYI for those wondering the fishing was good for me. Lake is in wonderful shape. The trip brought back some great memories.

Kayak fishing has exploded in popularity in the last 10 years.
It's estimated that there are 3 million anglers who fish from kayaks.
It's affordable to get into (it can get VERY expensive, some of the new kayaks can be as much as used boats) its fun, and a very effective way to catch fish. It will continue to grow is my bet.
And make no mistake, some of the best bass fisherman and anglers around are fishin from yaks these days.

What Dan said, but also it appears a lot of people have been buying kayaks during the shutdown because one thing that was allowed was getting on a lake.

No doubt it has and I support it. That said I freshwater mostly bass fish 80+ days a year prior to the recent world we live in, on pace for more this year! I’ve never seen so many and a remote lake in west TX? Had to be something planned as there was literally a couple hundred. I was just curios what was going on.

Yakers are the bicycle riders of the lake. They are slow and always in your way.

Looks like they had a great turnout. Wind got up pretty good though, felt sorry for some guys that paddled a long way.
I don’t feel like they are the bicycles of the lake. Move to Wichita Falls and see what our roads look like before The Hotter Then Hell race. I’m glad to see the sport grow regardless of the vessel one uses. Thanks for the update.

West Texas Kayak Fishing had our first tournament of the year there on Saturday. There were 50 of us that showed up to compete, it was a very tough day for most. I caught my limit in roughly 15 minutes on a spinnerbait up a creek and placed 5th. And Dan is right, I have roughly the same amount invested in my kayak as I do my 92 Skeeter. And yes I prefer fishing out of the kayak over the boat.
