The piece of plywood laying on the truck tailgate is starting to be too close to the ground for my back. Are the cleaning tables that Bass Pro and others sell worth a darn? Is there a good one y'all recommend? I would prefer something that folds up.

I have never used one of the Bass Pro Shops tables, but my son in law did. He said it was a real sturdy table. He did not have running water to hook up to it and just used it to fillet fish. He was pleased.

I use one from academy. It's main purpose is to keep the wife off my back about fish smell in the kitchen.

I bought mine at Attwoods. It is the same as BPS but cheaper price. I have used it several times here at my house. I don’t like hooking the water hose to it because it’s a pain. I just use tiny water hose. The table works good.

Mine is an old donut making table that I got from a Walmart that was going through a remodel. Right place right time kinda deal. First pic is when I got it and second pic is after I added a kitchen sprayer and water to it. I don’t have to bend over one bit now that it is on a slab. [Linked Image]

I have one very similar to this that works well for me. Not the best quality but overall good. I don’t hook up the hose and use the faucet. I’m 6’2 and it’s tall enough where I don’t have to bend over to clean fish on it. I would recommend it.

Trex boards, 2x4 frame and pvc pipe... wish I'd used cedar 4x4's for the legs so it wasnt so top-heavy but works pretty well.

Pretty nice table!
Maybe four construction blocks and a bag of ready mix can fix the top heavy problem.

Just one more cast!

Nice table happycampr. You could fill the legs and temporary cap them with a screw or wire to retain portability and empty when moving it.

You can make a raised ledge for your piece of plywood on the tailgate. Figure your correct heighth that will not hurt your back, then build the "lift" to place it as high as you need. Use some lighter wood for the runners (ledges/ base frame). That way it won't be too heavy to lift, move or store. You can always coat the pine or whatever with Thompson Water Seal to help it last.

I had one young guy that worked in the door shop (for the cabinet company I work for). When he would hand sand doors with one of the orbital air sanders, I would see how he would have to bend over. So I told him to get a piece of MDF for the top & 3 runners (for 3 sides only) to match the heighth he needed, so it would not strain his back. I did not want him to have back problems later in life due to this.

An old folding and adjustable height ironing board work great for fish cleaning. They are getting hard to find though.
