I use my cell phone Selfie camera with voice activated shutter, place the phone a little lower so it looks up at the fish and then I peek around it to make sure the fish fills the whole frame. I want to see the entire fish for my memories, do not care about long arm criticism or what I look like, then I add the weight directly on the picture (in this case 7lbs 3oz).

I use the Hero 7 Black. Nice camera. It’s waterproof and has voice control so you can turn it on / off by voice. It’s a great camera. As for accessories, you can get anything. I’d make sure you have several different mounts (clam, stick on, barrel mount, etc.. check amazon for bundle packages with several in a package. There are a lot of cheaper accessories than the actual GoPro brand that work fine. Extra batteries are a must have. Again, check amazon. There is also a wrist style remote that is pretty handy too.

Chest-ee with wrist strap that has 2 buttons one for a picture and the other for a video.....easier to just hit the one big button on your wrist with a fish on.....camera stays on sleep mode until you hit one of the buttons...or instead of being on my chest I have a mount on the console for the camera and just wear the wrist strap...camera can also be plugged into 12v outlet but mine u have to take out of waterproof case to plug in....or friend take a pic of me with his phone and text to me....the head straps are awkward and hard to wear with a hat in the sun...I do have a clamp accessory that I sometimes use to clamp to the bill of my hat. It is a little heavy and you need a tight fitting hat but I find it less awkward than the full head strap...its a strong clamp but you can easily take on and off your hat or any other thinner spot...also my camera is picky about what kind of memory card it will accept..read directions careful before buying a bigger memory card as it did not work with mine...200mb did not work in mine....also mine makes you format [erase] the card before using (recording) so actually smaller GB cards are better...the memory card is basically solely for the action camera as you cannot use one out of your camera unless you erase (format) all the pics first..not sure if all cameras are this way?

On some cameras made for cars, there is an option where they constantly record and recycle the memory. There is a button that can be pressed right after an accident that starts to save the recording beginning a minute BEFORE the button was pressed.

Forgive my go pro naivete, but it seems like that would take all the guess work out of making fishing videos. Set the hook, then press the button and you are golden. No editing out all the hours of not catching fish.

Go Pros have that option, it will keep the last whatever interval you choose. Helps save memory and helps alot with editing. I usually set mine to 5 minutes.

Thanks triton_21 and Go_N_Slow for that information. The one my friend let me use is a Hero960 with a head strap, it is a pain to turn on and off and is very uncomfortable to wear.

I can see where voice control or wrist button would be better and different mount system. The few shots I have gotten of fish have been ok. I think I will use some of that money Uncle Don sent me to get into this

I use the Hero 8 on a YOLO power stick. My phone is also mounted on my console if needed.

Then maybe post all the practice shots of you holding a coffee thermos here so we can laugh at you! grin[/quote]

Maybe. Or I could just have your wife start coming over again and take em. But dang she's annoying.
