I’m wanting to head out to Lake Sommerville this week or next. I live in central Texas and I’ve never been! Lol!
Should I start north or south end? Closer to the dam? I’m not looking for a free hand out but would gladly appreciate a general idea of where I should start at? I mostly fish with hand tied jigs but sometimes get minnows if my youngest daughter is fishing with me. Is there a bait shop with good live bait nearby? I’ve heard so much of this lake over the years- it’ll be fun to explore it! Thanks in advance for any suggestions - p.m me if you prefer.

Good luck. I'm no help with crappie. Sounds like a fun trip.

PB flathead 34.5 lbs - I know it's small but it was still the record for Lake Travis when I caught it!
PB Blue 58.5 lbs jugline 43.5 lbs on R&R which was the other Lake Travis record when caught.

I have only fished Somerville once. It's a great fishery but too far for me to drive to fish regularly or I would. Found fish on brush piles in the 17 foot of water range. There are some fat white and black crappie in there. You can try the Texas Parks and wildlife attractors if you have a GPS unit and it will give you some good areas to search. The GPS coordinates were not exact but found piles close by. Also found piles near boat launches and points.

The Marina at the campground impressed me. It has live bait and is well stocked with food, drinks and fishing gear and super nice folks. If you forget anything they probably have it! I would recommend starting there and go out exploring. My son liked fishing from the crappie dock at the marina also.

Thanks folks! I appreciate all the input. Was up at o-500 this morning, was going to hitch the boat till I saw rain in the area and 25-30 mile gusts forecasted on the lake! No thanks! I’ll save it for another day...

I’m finding that all the lakes seem to be getting super crowded...I’ll save that almost 2 hour for another day.
What area of Somerville has stumps/ flooded timber?

Agree with Snowy... While the tires mentioned at the marina are always popular, brushpiles are the key on Somerville.

There are quite a few guides who have placed brushpiles... Run the dam in about 12' of water looking for areas that dropoff to 18'. You will find the brushpiles easily. Minnows work best, but jigs are fairly effective as well.
