Over the winter can be a tough time. Excluding trout fishing I caught only 2 fish and managed 1 more bite while out kayaking from November thru mid March. Look for structure and try different baits. At some point if you keep doing what you are up to, you will start catching fish. If you can catch your own shad, chances should go up considerably. One thing to throw into your mix might be to fish below the dams when they are releasing water. Hang in there, your luck is about to change. .

Fortune cookie says your luck is about to change soon. There will be lots of shad in the lake. You can catch some as bait. You will catch fish.

Cat, I'm not apologizing for a da-n thing. You turned this topic, and I DID read the entire topic.
I commented in general, then the whole thing went catfish, or should I say "Live bait."
He mentioned lures, and that's what I commented on, and that I had been skunked a lot until lately.
Talk about things going sideways over a simple topic of "No bites in two months."
You, "you" started calling names. You should apologize for troll naming, and claiming I didn't read. I did!
...!

I have another question for everyone. Does time of day really matter that much for catching something? I know that fish typically feed in the early morning/night, but let's say I went in the afternoon. Is there just no hope of catching anything if I miss that early morning time? Obviously I've caught fish in the afternoon before, but I didn't know if that was just an outlier?
Also, with this random cold weather coming in, is that going to cut down on the amount of bites I'll get? I check the TPWD fishing reports frequently and they list the water temperature on the report. Is there like a "magic number" that is going to increase my chances? Right now everything is around the low or mid 60s.

I had a similar question regarding rain and how it could effect fishing. From what others have said, anytime is a good time to fish. IMO, I would get a size 6 hook, nightcrawler or red worm, bobber, and catch as many panfish as you can to get out of this slump. Once you start catching a few, then start to target specific. A couple of panfish will get you on track.

![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/05/full-113754-51176-img_7824.jpg) Hi everyone, I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of the advice. Yesterday I went out to the Trinity River in Fort Worth and casted my line out, caught this nice channel cat within a few minutes!! I was very excited. I used chicken gizzards, they worked really well. Anyways, just wanted to say, the curse has been broken.

I’ve had best result bank fishing with fresh love or cut bait on a bobber or drop shot. If you try that with fresh shad, live minnows or worms, I would be very surprised if you didn’t get anything. You can catch a wide variety of species using any of those setups. Usually around dams, bridges, and docks you can easily find fish.
In my experience using crankbaits, plastics, spinnerbaits, etc. its a lot easier if you are on the water and less likely to snag up in brush and weeds along the shoreline. If there is any way you could get a kayak, canoe, row boat, or anything that would get you in the water, you can get to some better spots that you wouldn’t normally be able to get to bank fishing and I’ve had far more luck with those methods on the water.
