I was in the creek today catching all types of sunfish, but mainly redbreast on their monster beds. I caught this unique hybrid. I never caught one like it before. Green by Redbreast hybrid? It was 8.75 inches and weighed 0.51 lbs.

Yep, that is what I believe it to be. Chuck and I are catching a few of those now and then. Green/Redbreast is what we guessed. Also, getting a few Redear/Bluegill mix.

Thanks Rick & Jagg I catch those red ear by bluegill hybrids as well. But don't recall ever catching a redbreast hybrid like this. Or maybe I just never paid close enough attention.

Thanks Meadowlark and Laker One. It was caught in a creek off the Colorado river. Do you think it actually is a Georgia Giant or just looks like one? It would be interesting to know if they have populated the Colorado river system.

Thanks GD and Banker
The length and opaque end of the ear closely resembles a long ear. It really doesn't resemble a green, redear or bluegill. Do the Georgia Giants raised in ponds have that long ear?

Jamie: A very good friend of mine who is a Freshwater Marine Biologist stated this was a Georgia Giant. Bluegill,Redear,Green sunfish mix! Caught back in 2014. Parks&Wildlife called it a Green Hybrid Sunfish. Side Note: Either way it's some sort of a Hybrid Green for sure!

Thanks Chuck, That looks like the hybrid greens I catch in the ponds. Exactly like my hybrid green state record. I never knew what a Georgia Giant actually looked like and I've been catching them for years. Great information. The one I caught in the creek looks much different. That belly color and ear flap are much different. I still suspect green x redbreast or even green x longear. Appreciate your help, as always

Jamie...Looks like sunfish aren't real picky for a mate when they are in the "mood"
