This is the second remote I've had where the small piece where the lanyard attaches broke. While I know this is covered under warranty, the next one will break easily too as it's made of a thin cheap piece of plastic. Just in case this has happened to you, this is how I fixed it. MUCH stronger and if it breaks, it'll likely pull me down with it.
I used a small piece of Kevlar cord, some UV glue and some clear nail polish.

I had an alarm on my car in Highschool that same piece would always break as well. Like you said it was covered under warranty but annoying to deal with.
