Went out to Aquilla today with my dad and grandpa and got on the water around 7. First time on the lake didn’t turn out too bad. 24 keepers with most of them being very good quality fish. All but 3 came from standing timber anywhere from 7-13 fow and those 3 were on a brush pile. Using my sides can lately has been pretty humbling, turns out I’m not as good as I thought I was with it. 1/8th ounce chartreuse jig heads with bayou booger or sweet tea w/ lemon Bobby garlands seemed to be the colors of choice with black and chartreuse also getting bites.

Awesome job for the first time on the lake! I’ve never been there either and I’m thinking of going. Is there a lot of Tim we to worry about while running?

There is a lot of timber but it seemed pretty consolidated to the areas that it was kind of common sense to not run in. Also could’ve just been getting lucky though.

Nice catch for your first time!!!! I've been going to Aqullia for the last year and have zeroed more time than I want to admit!! For anybody new to the lake there are some high spots that are very shallow on the main part of the lake that will be just the surface or exposed when the lake is just a little bit low.

Awesome job for the first time on the lake! I’ve never been there either and I’m thinking of going. Is there a lot of Tim we to worry about while running? Once you start seeing timber just putt along, all open from the island to the dam but a few very shallow humps (not an issue at this water level). And like any lake, it's packed with people now. I've been fishing it regularly for a few years and I've never seen so many people. Pretty sure I saw more boats today than I would normally see in a months time on that lake up until about 5 weeks ago. Crappie fishermen to other anglers is easily 10:1 today. Me and dad still caught plenty but parking can be an issue so go very early.
