For those who love charts. The graphs below show the currently weekly/monthly death tolls for NYC and several other countries around the world as compared to their historical averages. This is total death count, which includes all causes of death. Just plain body counts as compared to normal. I'm seeing lots of folks arguing online that nobody is dying of anything else anymore. That all deaths are being counted as COVID-19 deaths. etc... Clearly a whole lot more people are dying right now as compared to normal.

This isn't intended to be doom and gloom. It isn't intended to argue for longer shut downs. It's just facts, draw from them what conclusions you may.

(Note the data is several weeks old, so the spikes would be much more extreme now).

Do you think Covid deaths will surpass Flu deaths in the US this cold/flu season?

Another chart that shows total deaths in the US for the last couple months. My only point with this chart is that ~55,000 people are dying every week in the US. The vast majority of them are not being classified as COVID-19 deaths. A lot of internet chatter would have you believe nobody is dying of anything right now but COVID-19. That would be false. COVID-19 has become the largest single cause of death per day in the US, but when you add up all the other deaths they outweigh COVID-19 by 5:1.

Remember flu deaths are an estimate, with a huge range, as a very small percentage are confirmed with lab tests. That said, average annual deaths from the flu are estimated to be 12,000. On a really bad year they go up to 60,000. (US numbers here, per the CDC).

Yes, I believe COVID-19 deaths will surpass the flu even though we have done the single largest mass shut down in our nations history, which we have never done for the flu.

You sure about that? Seeing some different stuff out there. From CDC no less. Are the CDC scientists good or bad? I have a hard time keeping track of who's good or bad.

The CDC COVID-19 death is lagged by about 2 weeks because they take time to confirm/scrub it. As of right now they only show ~24,000 deaths. That second chart has their latest data on deaths. I chopped off the final week on their chart because it had not been fully populated yet.

Showing the average death rate in the U.S. for an average day, month, or year and then showing the average death rate happening now should be enough for those who can look at things logically, reasonably.
Jpurdue, you do realize that logic and reason aren't indicative of the deniers who habitate the OT?

At first I thought WOW, this is really bad. The I realized, it was NY city, where they were all hearded into subways where it spread like crazy for a few weeks, thanks to their stupid mayor.
Let's see the average town on a graph now instead... what, there isn't one yet! Figures.

Classifying deaths as Covid-19 that aren't is nothing more than an insurance/benefits game. Be classified as "death from Pandemic" and guess, what? Your policy doesn't cover that. Follow the $.

shows:
Flu deaths have dropped each week since Feb 29
total deaths for the week of 2/1/20 is higher than 3/28/20 in which there were 2500 Covid 19 deaths reported.
total deaths for the week of 2/8/20 is only 1000 less than 4/11/20 which is reporting 9900 covid 19 deaths
seems the charts do represent what is being reported if you read them
