I use a small piece of blue painter's tape to secure my line to the butt section of my rods when I don't have a hook on it. Just fold over a little bit one side of it so it doesn't stick and makes it easy to grab and pull off. Leaves no residue either. When I pull int off I just stick it on the boat somewhere handy and close to where I sit to rig up. Also good when I re spool , thread through guides and don't tie a bait on right away.

What do you feel the benefit is in doing this? When I don't have a bait tied on I don't have a hook to secure the line with on a hook keeper. I don't like having my line just flying around unsecured that gets tangled or wrapped around other rods or reels or coming back out of the guides on the rod. So I have enough line there at the ready to tie a bait on without having to run it back through guides that it may have come back through. Everyone has their own way of keeping things tidy, this just works great for me. I don't always have a bait tied onto every rig before I go out. Maybe didn't have time or don't know what bait I will want on that rig when I want to use it, or I break off while fishing and put that rig away and pick up another one. It just takes a second and saves me the aggravation of a loose line getting tangled on something. What do you do? Always interested in learning.

I usually just tie the end in a loop and secure the loop to something (reel handle, rod guide, etc)

Good idea, especially if you already have the tape handy. Recently I cut a bait off a rod with a short leader. I didn't want to tie a loop on the end, further shortening the line. This would have worked well.

Same here on the leader getting shorter and shorter.
I also started pre rigging C rigs , (swivel - leader - hook) saves me time on the water tying 2 more knots.

Nice handle- slow....I might try that as I dont carry 20 reel with 20 lures like some people...save time on threading back through the rod eyes only to find you forgot to thread through the reel eyelet....sometimes I tie on a snap swivel if I know I will be in the back of the boat with a limited number of rods and hook it to the hook saver thing when know I might be changing lures often....
