My daughter and I went out on the 30th and slayed them. I limited out and my daughter caught 20. Brought home 42 whites. River was higher and I could get up to the usual beach here spot. Has anyone laid eyes on the Lampasas after this last bout of rain. I’m planning on going up river this Sunday if it’s not to muddy. On the 30th it was stained but got cleaner the further upstream we went.

Did good the on the 30th. Again paddled up to 'the falls'. Minnows was the thing. Pulled in a fish every 3 minutes until the minnows ran out. The only lure that was effective was 'sassy shad' and that only caught one. Fished from 10 am till 1. Tried to net additional minnows in the river unsuccessfully.
The first riffle was now mostly submerged and power boats had no problem getting past it. However, the river flow had decreased so now the Falls was a real barrier. Only smaller power boats could pass the Falls that day. I believe I saw you up there on the 30th. The sassy shad did great for my daughter and I. I believe we spoke to each other across the river. You were tearing them up with big shad.

After that heavy rain on the weekend it was pure trash on the lampasas. It is starting to clear up, but now we have more chances of rain Saturday. I’m going to start working weekends so I can take off and fish Thursday and Friday.

I took my son up river today. Thought we might catch a few stragglers up river. Trolled from GC to the beach. Nothing. Didn’t look good. I beached the boat and walked past the rapids to the honey hole. First cast, Boom, a little male hit. 2 seconds later same for my son. Second cast big ole fat female. We ended up catching 30 fish without moving. We walked and fished up past the little falls. Up and back to the boat produced approximately 100 fish. We took home 48. We released everything under 12 inches. Not a bad day, especially when I thought the run was over. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/04/full-110233-47831-52738755_b75d_445d_8d16_ec12efa9bea9.jpeg)

Butch my experiences on the Lampasas back in the 90s and early 2000s was that they could be up there until the middle of May unless the shad really got going. With all these fronts however I bet they will be up the river for at least a couple of weeks still.
Wishing I had a boat.

Stillhouse is now a few inches above conservation pool, so power boat access to 'the falls' will not be a problem. Forecast Sunday rains failed to materialize in the Lampasas watershed, so river flow is stable at around 190 cfs. Should be clear, fish should be biting.

Have any of ya'll running up the river bumped into channel cats yet? Used to be towards the end of the whitebass channels would swarm the first two sandbars above GC. Caught 'em on sassy shad right along with the whites. No monsters just solid fryers in the 14 to 18 inch range. I am picking up a kayak today so I can join in on the bonanza up there at least by next spring.

Monday my daughter and I hit it in the morning. The morning bite was on again. We caught around 100 fish. We have fish in the freezer so we decided to release everything under 13 inches. We took home 28 nice fish. The whites are still there and I wish I was up there today. While fishing, only one other boat came up. Practically had the entire stretch to myself again. Beautiful day spent on the river with my daughter.

I have not seen any catfish up in that area. I did see a 4 lb Gasper come out yesterday. I would love to get some catfish in the freezer.

Think the spawn is winding down. I went to 'the falls' in kayaks on the 29th. First off, the extra water in the lake over conservation pool has killed the falls, lake tailwater now extends another 100 yards past the falls. Caught just 4 fish that evening: 11 inch white, 12 inch black drum, 13 inch white, and a 14 inch channel cat. Throwing sassy shad.

I’ve been fishing up in that area during the white run for 3 years religiously and hiked around the area from 1992. I see people on here using “the falls” as a reference point. I have yet to see any falls. What/where are these falls. I usually fish up river from gravel crossing about 3.5 miles. I know where there are 2 spots with some faster water. Both spots hold Whites nicely. I’ve also saw a spot where water trickles down the hill and goes into the river. Not really falls. It’s it further up river or is it something else? Am I missing something?
