Up at 3:00am, got my wife up at 4:00am (a very delicate maneuver which should only be tried by the most competent and brave husbands) and headed to the lake. I was excited because I had caught fish on one spot for the last two weeks and wanted my bride to get in on some of that action. Showed up at Hanks Creek ramp and the wind was howling. DEFINITELY not the 6mph winds they called for. I drove to Monterey to launch as it's more protected and rounded the bend heading for the Deer Stand area. I was greeted by 2ft waves and really thankful I was in a bay boat versus a bass boat. I got to the spot and even though it was in the wind, dropped the trolling motor down and put it on spot lock. My bride was cold so she decided to stay bundled up until I caught the first fish. I made 5 or 6 casts with nothing to show for it and noticed my boat moving in towards the buckbrush I had originally spot locked about 30 feet from. I tried the remote and the motor wouldn't respond. I unplugged and replugged in the trolling motor...same problem...and now the battery indicator showed red. Weird because I just replaced both batteries two months ago with 34 AGM's that have a two year replacement warranty. After fiddling with it for a bit, I gave up and moved further into the deer stand and out of the direct wind, but with no trolling motor and looking at my wife's face, we decided to call it a day at 8:30am. She slept all the way back and I got the battery exchanged on the way back. No fish...but I did get out of the house and spend some time with my favorite fishing partner.

Sounds like just a drive through the country with a quick diversion of fishing. Have done that more then once.

We have to struggle through those trying times. Those are tough trips on the wife and not a good thing when we are working toward success and building a fishing partner. Glad they exchanged the batteries. Check your charging system also as something may be wrong on that end.

What 34 you running? You want the most amp hours (AH) in a battery for trolling motor.

I have a Optima Blue Top 34M for my cranking battery and have 2 - 27's for my trolling motor.
