A couple of years ago, there was a thread about using cable ties instead of the heavy monofilament line on the string trimmer. I cannot find this old thread & am currently struggling replacing the line. For me, it is very frustrating. Can anyone describe the procedure for using the cable ties? The old thread reported that it is very simple to use the cable ties. I just cannot figure out the procedure. I have a Toro string trimmer & may just replace it with an Echo brand.

Not sure about that but I have a Toro weedeater and it is easy to fill and holds a ton of line. I will admit I did have to break out the instructions the first time but easy and feeds great. If you don't have the manual you can probably Google in and get the instructions. From memory mine you line up the spool then run the line thru a hole out the other side once it is even turn backwards and it self winds. Maybe not exact as I am at work but something like that very easy to do.

I usually buy an aftermarket head and replace the original head. Much easier to load string and when I pop the head against the ground, new string actually comes out. I guess I have time to replace mine today. Can't help on the cable ties.

Thanks, Hard Rain. I checked YouTube & it has a lot of good information on the subject. One video described your head and it looks great Hope Home Depot has one.

My problem with the spooled line is I always run out at the furthest point in my yard from my shed.

Cable ties didn't work for me. All they did was beat the chit out of the grass and maybe cut 1 in a 100 pieces.
I fish on the edge and stay out of the middle

Buy good line and you shouldn't have to wind but once every 3 or so months

I didn’t know they still made bump head trimmers. Most frustrating tool ever.

Thanks for the help sports fans. Hard Rain sent me in the right path. My Toro weed eater is 12 years old, So I decided to purchase a new one. Bought the Echo with the auto winding head Used it yesterday and the machine has much more power than the Toro. Trouble is that the attachments are not compatible. So, now the Toro still has some use left.
