Monster Slabs!!!!!!
Had John and his brother-in-law Kevin again on Lake Fork today.
It was a little cold, and yes we had to fight the north wind most of the day.
But I had a plan for today and we stuck with it and we was successful.
These two love to fish, and when you add livescope it makes it that much better!!
These guys caught some Slabs today!!!
Kevin’s big fish was 2.57 pounds and John was right behind him with a 2.51 pounds that we release back in the lake. Congratulations on the awesome fish guys!!!! See you in a couple weeks.
Now that most of the spawn is done for the year( yes I said year they only spawn in spring). Now is the time when things are going to start getting good.
The bite is going to be great and the fishing will get consistent.
So I want to go over something I do that make makes me consistent and successful.
#1 God is very good to me and has blessed my socks off.
One of the biggest things I see people do is overthink fishing. By this I’m saying, They add way more than needed. I’m a person that likes to keep it simple and to the point. We are trying to catch a crappie not building a spaceship.
The biggest thing people think of and I get asked is the bait. And to be honest I put very little concern on my bait. Some my people worry about the brand of bait, color, size, jig head size. All this matters very little, and when I say very, I mean very little.
I pull my little tackle box out all the time . And it as 2 or 3 colors in it and the clients say, is that all were using today. I say yes, it all we need. And at the end of the day they say Wow that was all we needed. I say yes sir!!!
I see stuff people post that you have to have this, and that, and do it like this. And that’s not true at all. I believe very little what is see on Facebook . After crappie fishing for 28 years and doing it for a living you find out what works and what doesn’t , and you take the rest of it and throw it out the window. ( This reminds me of my dad in his mechanical ethics maybe that’s where I get it).
It about knowing what you are doing, and having confidence in what you are doing. Then getting in your head that what you are doing is going to make you successful at the end of the day.
And everyone one can do this, with time one the water. I have clients that I have showed them how and they are out doing the same thing. It just takes time on the water.
I hope some of this helps you become a more successful Crappie fishermen.
Today we fished timber my favorite pattern in 10 to 18 foot of water. With fish suspended 6 to 16 foot deep. Fish are scattered and we hunt them down. Fish are still aggressive if you get it in front of them they will hit it.
Today we used my hand tied jigs. I’m starting to like fishing with them. There easy and maintenance free. Jig colors where black and orange and yellow and black 1/8 ounce. Paired with the Bonehead 12 foot rods.
If you are looking to get on some Big East Texas Slabs please feel free to give me a call.
God Bless America!!!!
