MERCY - not receiving what you deserve GRACE - receiving what you don't deserve Preach the gospel at all times; USE WORDS IF NECESSARY "It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness." I'd rather walk with God with no questions answered than to walk thru life without Him and know the answers
These cats aren't stocked into a body of water but their eggs are transferred by cranes wading in water. Pretty hard not to have them in a pond unless you have some big bass are cats to eat them.
Although the fish is yellow-brown in color, it has black chin barbels so it is a black bullhead (Ameiurus melas). If it was a yellow bullhead (Ameiurus natalis) it would have white barbels. Black bullheads will have 17-21 anal rays, while yellow bullheads have 23 to 27 anal rays. Both are commonly called mud cats or polliwogs.

Very interesting, I’ve caught quite a few over the years but never distinguished one bullhead from another.

Yellow bullhead, black bullhead, to me it just looks like it needs to be on a 10/0 circle hook.
I've always heard they make good live bait. Never caught one in a lake, but a pond by my house is loaded with them.
They’re flathead candy, but channels and blues will also eat them. I’ve heard they make good walleye bait up north as well. You don’t catch them on ponds with healthy channel catfish and bass populations because they’re easy prey, same goes for lakes, all of the bass, flatheads, blues, and other gamefish eat them so they’re a rare catch. I’ve personally seen one caught on a lake.
