I am really disappointed that I am not on this list, I finish in the top 10 in 96% of the C A S T tournaments that I fish, I have won a Classic and a couple of A O L's, my sponsors are going to be disappointed if they see this thread, lol. There are a lot of great tourney anglers mentioned on this thread, many of them could compete with the best if they had the time and or the money. As far as winning in texas, David Wharton would have to be near the top, he was a good dude, had a couple beers with him at a tourney several years ago, he won.

I would say the best tournament anglers in Texas are the ones that have won BASS AOY's. Winning a Classic is epic but that is one event. The guys that have done it on the Elite Tour for years will tell you that their respect goes to the man that wins AOY. I know Clunn & Nixon no longer live in TX but thats where they came from.
Rick Clunn Gary Klein Larry Nixon Jay Yelas
There are lots of great anglers from TX but you asked for the Best. IMO these are them. Clark Wendlandt has 3 FLW AOY''s I think Yes I should have included him. I haven't followed FLW. Nothing against them just haven't followed. And yes Jay Yelas is from Oregon but he lives in TX now and it fit my argument Yelas is hard to keep up with haha. I think he moved back to Oregon after he left Bass? I know he's back with Bass now though...

Can I nominate myself? I'm so good, I stay away from tournaments to give the other guys a shot.

Off topic. Donald Harper is a good contributor to the board. Does he push his products? Yeah?. None the less. Make a list of useful people on this board and he’s up there.. doesn’t deserve the smart [censored] remarks. yes he does

Local's... Vernon Beatty (sp?) and Gary Yelverton were neck and neck best, Mike Metcalf was next, you'd have to put Newberry right there with them as he's won over $1mm fishing local and regional stuff. David Wharton was a great regional guy that also was really good as a Pro, as Pro's tho you'd have to look at the Hemphill gang, and it that's the case Clunn is the most obvious stand out based upon winning tour events and classics, followed by Nixon, the rest of those guys were great but no where near those two as the top...
my two cents
