Online stocking history may not be updated, but it has last stocking in 2018 of 1Mil Fry. There seems to be a lot of 8-12" stripes in the lake right now. I would not think these fish would correlate to that stocking. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there was some unrecorded stockings or if these could be natural spawners with the crazy water flow last year?

I was at a tournament in Arkansas one time and the subject of striper stocking in Lake Quchita came up.
No one new what the state had stocked. A private hatchery owner commented that stripers would continue at Quchita and he knew for fact that that lake Quchita received a dam good private stocking recently..

We catch Hybrids at PK. Do those come from lake Graham? Naturally produced? Extras from fish hatchery?

You can most likely call the TPW biologist for Whitney and he can give you an educated guess. There is just no way to know how a fish gets were it is.

The word is that stripers won't spawn in whitney, I don't think I believe it. I think they do to some degree. We have caught a few 6-8" stripers this spring. I also caught what I believed to be a hybrid striper last year at whitney, and they are not supposed to be in that lake. Judge for yourself. Wildlife like all living things adapt and change.

There are definitely hybrids in whitney. I've caught 5 since last summer, of the 5 there was 3 different age groups. 3 - 19-20", 1 - 22", 1 - 25". Word around is they blew out of Cleburne, but that doesn't explain the difference in size/age based on the stockings.

Yes I've caught Hybrids numerous times over the last 30+ years. I believe they are natural and not stocked. Some people have a hard time identifying Hybrids but it is easy if you lay one beside a Striper and especially easy if you can put a White, Hybrid, and Striper side by side.

I believe that all 3 lakes on the Brazos river basin had a natural spawn. As long as Mother Nature doesn’t intervene PK and granbury will make great comebacks as well as Whitney getting even better In next 2 years.

Dont forget the amount of water PK and Granbury have both let out. I've caught several 8"-12" striper in Granbury and a 16" hybrid. Striper will go up stream to spawn. Hybrid don't spawn on their own.

Caught probably 5 dozen of these small 2-10" guys on the Nolan so they are coming from somewhere.

I assume you are talking Ouachita, with an "O".

There had definitely been natural spawn recently as I remember seeing several old posts about it. Also, in the last couple of Hightech Redneck (aka guide Randy Routh) mentioned that the lake had a record number of fish.

As long as the golden algae stays away and there’s some level of annual pressure reduction for extended periods of time, flooding the last couple of years and coronavirus this year, the lake should be in really good shape!

I used to catch hybrids in PK back in early 1990’s. I live near Abilene Texas and also fish lake Ft. Phantom for hybrids for several years. Hybrids were first stocked in Phantom in 1977. It still receives stockings every year. Phantom has gone over the spillway many many times over the years. When it goes over the spillway it goes into Clear Fork of Brazos River. Clear Fork goes about 10 miles and joins regular Brazos River which flows into PK. Ft. Phantom looses large numbers of hybrid each time it overflows into the river.

Yeah hybrids from Phantom definitely end up in PK.
Also, lake Palo Pinto has had a lot of hybrids stocked over the years, and those can go over the spillway into Palo Pinto creek, which flows into the Brazos above Granbury. I'm sure some of those end up going over the spillway at Granbury and then into Whitney.

I've heard that fish lost from Graham are the most likely source of hybrids in PK.

I've been asking the TPWD to update the stocking history for a couple months now. Don't know why its been so delayed.
