I had two people insist on shaking my hand today. I haven't really thought about it until then, but I think it was the first time in a month. I wonder if that is something that may go away for good when we go back to normal next year. It seemed odd to me after one month, how odd will it seem a year from now?

By this summer, you will start getting dirty looks when you attempt to shake someone's hand in public. Will Italians go back to kissing each other on each side of their face? Some of these weird customs may go away for good, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

What will the handshake be replaced by? It definitely serves a purpose in our society. I don't think you can just do away with it without replacement. All replacements I can think of are much more weird. I mean, for example foot-tapping will have us all looking like we belong on tik-tok. Elbow-bumps won't serve the same purpose as a handshake. Perhaps Namaste will be the new sign of greeting and respect? Or we could just wash our hands like we are supposed to, not touch our faces and continue to shake hands.

I started doing the crocodile Dundee test as a greeting to everyone I meet about 2 weeks ago. It’s a great ice breaker.

roflmao They may offer you the "perch" handshake where they just leave their hand limp like a dead perch.

Going forward those should be reserved for the skinny jeans, hair bun types.

I can see it coming back a few months after this all simmers down, but I bet a portion of our society will not come back to it
