A little about the tactics and tackle wouldn't hurt l guess, especially since you guys have a fair way to travel for some of these Reds.
The species is called Snapper to the Layman or
Chrysophrys auratus for those who like to speak in multiple syllables
. The large one was caught in roughly 26 meters of water using a cut bait of Tommie Rough, or
Arripis geogianus. the way I cut my bait is with the bait fish laying flat, a simple vertical slice to the back bone, at about the 1/3 mark "either end" then a horizontal fillet across the back bone to the 2/3 mark, then another vertical slice thru the Back bone and thru the skin on the other side. This leave a fleshy piece to wriggle about which is full of juices and acts as it's own burley stream.
I pin this to 2x 6/0 Mustad Big Gun Hooks tied to 80-lb trace line to the swivel and 50-lb main line to the Reel to give me a chance against the reef. The Reel is a Penn Jig Master. An Old reel yes, but Penn has made them Bullet proof, the Rod is a tad hard to describe, it is in Kilo's , hopefully you guys have a conversion chart to work from, otherwise Kilos is about double to Pounds. ABU Garcia 15Kilo stick. the bait is allowed about a good meter "3 foot" of trace before the swivel and sinker, "lead weight" the weight obviously depends on Tides & currents
