My grandson and I would like to Kayak down Red River. Would like to put in below the dam and have my wife pick us up someplace down-river.

Anybody have any idea about a good day trip of this type and a good spot for a pickup point down-river?

Thanks, Chuckwagon

I think the only bridge pickup point east of HWY 75 is the HWY that crosses the river north out of Paris, and that is about 40 miles downstream. If you fished real hard, and the water's not running, you might be able to stretch the trip to 75 out to one day. You'd have to really be serious about fishing it though. I think it's maybe 2-3 miles tops. Maybe there are some public access points downstream, but I'm not sure what they are. PS, make sure you get your OK fishing license.

Thanks JDavis, will do a little more planning. We have looked at it on the maps but would like to hear from someone that has actually ran the river from the dam to Paris. If you know anyone that has ran that course, let me know.

Thanks,

Chuckwagon

OK.. shows what I know.. According to google maps, there appear to be two other small bridges crossing the red river between 75 and Paris. From the satellite view it looks as if there is a decent place to get in or out on the Texas side at HWY 75. The book I have "RIVERS AND RAPIDS"(A VERY HANDY BOOK FOR ANYONE INTO RIVER FLOATING)mentions that the run from the texoma dam to HWY 78 is 32.5 miles, but at 12.6 miles, there is a bridge that crosses on FM 120.

All this talk has really got me wanting to go. dammit.
