I may have a move in my future to follow family to be closer to grandkids. I am curious as too the differences between Lakes Livingston and Ceder Creek in your vast experience on both Lakes. When my Daughter and SIL move back from NewYork they could relocate to Austin, Dallas or Houston. I currently have a house on Buchanan but I know nothing about the other two Lakes.
Any info would be great.

I grew up in Livingston and own a guide service on Livingston and lake Conroe. I have lived in Athens for 15 years and fish Cedar Creek regularly. I'd be happy to offer insights that might be helpful in your decision making process.

I can't speak for him but I believe Dennis will echo this as it was impact-full in his retirement location decision making process.

In regard to Lake Livingston. The Trinity River giveth and the Trinity River taketh away! Lake Livingston is virtually drought proof because of the river but it is VERY flood prone. I don't mean that the lake level rises into yards or homes, but that the lake (like right now) looks like chocolate milk when heavy spring rains flood the river.

However, I would lean Houston because of the proximity to salt water

rebait: Both lakes are equally good for white bass and hybrids when the water is clear. That's the problem with Lake Livingston as Chris says. Most years now it seems that the lake muddies up from winter or early spring rains that dump volumes of muddy water into the Trinity River watershed. And it often does not clear up until June or July. So, that kept me from considering it for a place to retire. Cedar Creek Lake is fed by several Creeks and rarely muddies up - at least on the south end. I think it has muddied up twice in the 20 years I have been here and cleared up both times by April.
