Buying for my wife who is still struggling with a baitcaster. Need a good "generalist" reel which I'll spool with braid/fluoro leader. Generalist in that she'll be throwing everything from weightless senkos/flukes to 3/8oz T-rigs. Pairing with a Dobyns 703sf spinning rod. Something light and good with braid. Budget is in the $100+/- range. Thanks in advance for the recommendations!!

I have a shimano sedona 2500 on the same rod, love it. I would think any shimano would work great for her.

I remember meeting Zell Rowland at Bass Pro in Grapevine probably 20 years ago when he was giving a seminar on his Pop r. Back then not many pro's were using spinning reels except the west coast boys. I was just chatting with him casually afterward and jokingly if he owned one. His reply has stuck with me forever. "Yeah, but I f'n HATE it!" We both had a good laugh and it has taken me 20+ years and moving to an area where you better learn to use one or get skunked many days in these deep clear water lakes. So I also bought the Shimano Sedona 2500 and matched it with a Quantum EscaladeHD 7' medium rod. It's weird, but both seem to work well. Cheap rod and reel but just wanted to make sure I would actually use them. I think I've got about $120 total for both. And I've managed to catch a few fish on them. Gotta work on my hookset.

Shimano Nasci ---- I have two of these and absolutely love them . I have a couple of the older , more expensive Shimano spinning reels and the Nasci is better . If you have time , Dicks Sporting had these on sale for $79.99 .

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. Oldbassguy-I have heard several positive comments about the Nasci. I'll end up being way more picky about this than my wife-and I won't even be using it!

I believe they are just under $100, but the Pfleuger Supreme is unbeatable in terms of weight and performance in that price range. I bought my wife two of them and she loves them.

I bought a supreme when my Sedona crapped out. Been more than pleased. Brother in law is a spinning reel fanatic has been getting away from shimano due to a common issue with some bearing that the rotating assembly rides on. Over the past couple of years he's retired a half dozen Stradics and gone to Diawa and Phlueger. The salt water guys are abandoning Shimano spinning reels by the droves.
