I just bought a blue max combo about a month ago from Wal-Mart and i was wondering if its a good deep cranking combo its got a medium heavy rod that's 7ft in length and a 7.1.1 gear ratio on the reel [Linked Image]

Good combo for a good price, I bet. YOU CAN fish deep crankbaits with it, but you will probably get pretty tired, doing it. My deep CB reels are actually in the 5.1:1 to 5.6:1 rancge, but I like keeping by CB in the strike zone longer than most people. I have caught more fish in the slower zones. UNLESS they are feeding rapidly and schooling, then a 7 gear ratio is preferable. At least for me. It WILL work, but you probably need to start getting some exercise on your arms. Hope this helps.
