After a long work week I slept in late, but around noon I was ready to hit the road. I decided to stay closer to home and headed toward Lake Palestine. Wasn't really in a hurry and checked out the spillway behind the dam, just to see how much water was coming over and to see if anyone was catching from shore.

Lots of folks fishing, hardly anyone catching. Even the throw netters weren't finding shad.

Passed over Flat Creek bridge then came to Kickapoo Bridge and took the picture of the crappie fisherman on the old bridge.

Kept driving on to see what was going on at Neches river outside of Chandler. Folks fishing there too. Decided on Kickapoo Saturday.

Only fished about 4 hours on Saturday and about the same on Sunday. Water clarity Sunday on Flat Creek was excellent, much cleaner and better catching than Kickapoo on Saturday.

Caught a few in Kickapoo but it was tough fishing for the most part, biggest of the afternoon below. Missed quite a few on 5 inch swimbait.

Sunday, the bite was on from the time I started fishing , around 1:00 until 5:00. After almost an hour without a bite I headed back in.

Switched to a 1/0 flashy swimmer with small lake fork shad swimbait and the fish were wearing it out. Water clarity was excellent and I saw big fish come after it. Must have caught over a dozen, several nice sized crappie and missed a bunch. Beautiful, calm, day on the water

All is good.

Just fabulous photos, Iconn4.

I used to drive right by the old bridge and there were usually a few anglers sitting in chairs fishing it.

That whole north end of the lake is precarious for all but very experienced Palestine boaters. Seems like it'd make it for a paradise for kayak anglers. They say a lot of the really big fish are up on that end.
