Started the morning with charged batteries. Used the Helix maybe 45 min., left it on, then went to the bow and used a medium size trolling motor and Lowrance elite 5 for a few minutes.
When I returned to the console, the Helix was dead.
Got home and plugged in the onboard charger to my two (non deep cell) batteries, and after 15 minutes I happened to push the power button and the head came back to life.
I’m pretty sure my installer wired it in below the console.
What do you guys suggest?

first you should either install a dedicated fuse panel for electronics only or run them straight to the battery, with your two particular units I wouldn't use less than 14ga wire ( the bigger the better especially if you plan to upgrade units later on), then turn your attention to the batteries

I have the same problem with a helix 7 Gen 2 SI. I found out that a power surge like when turning your ignition key on or off will cause it to shut down. You can restart it after a minute or so it will come back up

This is common issue when units are wired to the existing factory fuse panel or weak battery. Most factory panels are not using large enough wire from the battery to the fuse panel. Newer electronics need good clean unrestricted power source.

I agree 100% with what 44 Diesel says. I have NEVER seen a boat that had a factory power run to the console that was suitable for all the loads. The more the load (amps) the more voltage drop you get per foot of wire. Start with wire undersized for the load you have, and you get trouble. The system is hanging right on the edge of working. Adding the outboard starting load drops the battery voltage, and the system slips off the cliff, resulting in electronics power-off. I always add a dedicated fuse panel for electronics and power it with 10 ga. wiring (+12 AND GND) to the main battery/switch. I've never been plagued with brown-out using this power distribution.
