Everything Lane has said is true.

It's frustrating fishing the Spawn, but I caught 2 males today over 2lbs, in really Big Wind. Can't wait for the big females to show up. I thought they were both bass until they got to the side of the boat!

Just cast and move, eventually you will find the right spot. Enjoy it, they will probably be gone tomorrow!

How does the rising level of the lake with all the rain affect where fish will spawn? These lakes with all the rain are all flooding shoreline vegetation but at the same time the dams are wide open trying to draw down the water levels.

New moon is Tuesday, March 24th.

It won't bring Crappie to the shallows as well as the full moon but there will be some groups that will move to the shallows and try to spawn.

Especially if the weather / water are on a warming trend.

I was thinking the same thing. We’ve been catching them steady along the shallow shoreline but now the same spots are 2.5 feet deeper shutting the bite down.

My experience: rising water, falling water, falling water temps all just about stop the spawn for a few days. Rising water will scatter the fish and make them very hard to find. Falling water will move them off the banks out of shallow water. Water dropping 2+" a day will keep the fish out deeper. IMHO the shallow spawn will be stopped for a few days till the water stabilizes. Fish may continue to spawn on trees and other structure in deeper water as they do each year. All crappie don't move to the banks to spawn.

Great read man as I used some of this information this last year and let’s just say it’s paying off. I have caught a lot more fish by using my lake map card on any lake find channels figure out what depth you have been catching in and find structure they will be there especially as the water temps rise. Even the smallest lay over may be the best spot for the trip. Again thanks for sharing it’s paying off on my end.

Yes sir this is consistent with what I experienced this week. Only two days I got out were after big rains. Went up river where they had been and didn't see a fish caught all afternoon but found them in 14FOW in a creek bend coming out. On Wednesday found fish in 14-17 FOW on standing timber but very scattered. Not a single fish in the flooded grass and bushes. Thank you for your reply.
