I imagine that happens all the time in bass tournaments in general. Someone gets lucky, finds the fish or school of fish they need, and wins.

But not all the fish would have counted . It was just luck he came upon the school of fish .

No kidding. That’s the main difference between the two tours.

But he caught 30+ pounds of fish from that one school. You’re telling me that wouldn’t most likely swing a BASS tournament? That it’s never happened and every Bassmaster tournament has been won by picking off six pounders and moving around the lake non-stop?

Glad to see the 2 lb minimum.

Still prefer to see someone try and upgrade a 15 lb sack as opposed to being content catching 2 lbers, but it was a big improvement.

I believe the only reason it has the following it does is because of the anglers on the tour. Flip flop the anglers with the current BASS Elites and i bet many follow the big names.

So will be interesting to see who stays when contracts are up.

There are multiple strategies for MLF, just like there are for Bass. In Bass, you try to get a limit early and cull, right? In MLF you can do the same (even though you’re not culling because they all count of over two pounds). Or you can just go out and find a school and rack up quick weight (like Ott and Wheeler did so far this season). Or you can find a pocket, like MDJ did, and weigh 80 pounds. Or you can try to pattern them and gradually but steadily catch fish, like Powrosnik did on Okeechobee.

In Bass they get that limit, then try to upgrade, relying on a pattern, finding a school etc. MLF doesn’t remove the need to upgrade to bigger fish, it just adds the ability to be consistent. Guys can choose one or both strategies.

Some fans like both, some prefer one or the other. Some people like being able to know who has what and when, and seeing the pressure it adds in close contests. Some like waiting until the end to know.

I like it a lot more now that they raised the scorable mark to 2 pounds. I had zero interest in it when it was one pound. It was really fun watching ott’s last minute beat down.

Ott would have won even if they did best 5, but I don't like that an angler can get lucky on a big school, I also don't like that they can re-weigh a fish 3 times with the 2lb minimum that can be a 1lb 15oz swing at least 1lb minimum it was only 15oz, they need to further limit the # of times they can re-weigh in a day

SC-001... I think that's an interesting idea for change... they get 1 "re-weigh" per period... however, if the equipment proves to be flaky, then they should get the equipment replaced.

Require a whole lot of luck...

Ott’s best 5 from that school would’ve smoked everyone else’s best 5.

If you don’t like that an angler can get lucky on a big school, is professional bass fishing right for you?

And you think that weighing a fish results in a 1-15 change in weight of said fish? How does that work?

Yep. Not even close. This entire “get lucky and find a school” argument is asinine.

Its the best mass produced available for the time being but I mean an ounce of water is not that much, the longer you hold a fish out of water the less they are going to weigh, 3 challenges per day would be a great idea

Bro, what is your axe to grind against MLF?

Agree with what you are saying Mark, some will leave no matter what because they realized this format doesn't work for them but most it's about the money and keeping their household running harmoniously. "If moma is happy everybody is happy" could apply here too.

I remember one BASs tournament that the winner got lucky and landed on a bunch of fish. So much so they didn’t even give him a cameraman. It’s also boring when a guy gets a huge lead and never gives it up over 4 days. Don’t understand all the hate towards mlf.

The silence is because there are more important things going on in the world then a bass fishing trail argument. Some of you guys take this more serious than the stake holders. We all watched the local tournament just like we all watched Texas Fest last year.

IMO all BPT is doing is making the slow migration back to five fish. They heard everyone tell them their product was junk with the little fish. BASS focused on Big fish and now BPT has copied. How many fish count towards Heavy hitters? Funny it’s 5 when they’ve tried so hard to get away from best 5 model of BASS. How many times do they mention what a guys best 5 would be during the broadcast?
If BASS had eliminated entry fees altogether BPT would have only a handful of the older grumpy pro’s and the rest would’ve stayed. We’ll see how many stay once the ransom is paid.

And JT Kinney is the worst host I have ever seen.

Or the five fish counting towards heavy hitters could be a compromise for anglers and olive branch to bass fishing fans. Or maybe they’re mentioning what an angker’s five best would run in case there is a skeptic tuning in for the first time. Or maybe it’s a subtle dig at the competing tour, like “hey, his best five would run 35 today, plus he has caught 70 lbs overall!”

There are two sides to every story. Not everything has to be negative.
