Went to Placid for the first time this year this morning. Stable weather, mid-March, overcast day, light wind, 72 degree water, normal water level (although, a little strange color). NOTHING! No bites. Chatter bait, frog (in the pads), crappie jig, brush hog, Nothing. No small bass, no crappie, no perch, no nothing. Didn't see any fish to speak of on the depth finder. Is it just me, or is there something going on there? Also, there were no trailers in the parking lot.

I have been wondering about fishing Lake Placid, I rarely see fishermen on the water. Glad to finally see something about Placid even if is a sad report.

There was talk of draining Lake Placid last summer. If that already happened, then that would explain a dearth of fish.

I've made quite a few trips to placid since the beginning of the year and they have all been horrible. Dont know whats going on with the lake but fishing is petty tough as I usually target bass and crappie. Fished the big creek arm and couldnt catch a fish over 1lbs, water temps were great, overcast, good water clarity, prime time spawning areas and nothing.

Maybe call TPWD to see if they can get a biologist out there to check it out.
Doesn't sound right at all!

Just one more cast!

Chad, thanks for your input. It certainly wasn't the first time I have been skunked. I just don't remember it being so tough, when the conditions are so seemingly perfect. Maybe, I am like the old saying, "the older I get, the better I used to be!"

I live on the lake and fishing has been slow. I have caught a few bass but mostly blue cats. They'll hit a variety of baits including crank baits, swim baits, spinner baits, etc. Never seen anything like it. Been that way for the 3 years I have lived there. I agree though, the bite has slowed way down.

If the phone doesn't ring, it's me. I'm still fishin!
