Fished LL Sat. and Mon morning. Nothing! Used slabs, jigs, little Georges, etc, etc. Could not find a fish let alone hook up. I tried deadmans, twin poles area and the 121 cut. Looked at humps in the middle and still nothing I feel like a beginner again Also, any idea when the top water bite might begin??

Dan don't give up. You know this crazy weather we are having is going to have the fish off. Live bait will probbly pay off but I would also look to see if there is any action in the shallows with the whites chasing shad on the spawn.? If nothing else you may hook up with a big green perch! I am going to try to hit it thursday for a day of fishing to see what my luck will be. The salb and fly combo may be what I start with but I will have my cast net in the boat just in case. Oh ya just thought of something. Look for birda on the bank catching shad. If there are shad there may be shad eaters close by.

This has been the norm for spring and up until now. I have caught some fish on the banks chasing the shade. I have been "trying" to catch shade with my cast net, but they have proven evasive as well. Kids, aka DAN- let me now how you do Thursday. Are the whites still in spawn? Thanks for the reply!

I'm with you Dan, I have not had much luck slabbin or with sassy's. I must be doing something wrong as I hear that people are cleaning up on them. Live is the only thing i have caught hybrids on so far. It's not for lack of finding them though. Fish finder lit up (tons of them!) with them off deadmans in about 25-35'. They're not on the bottom and would not hit slab or sassy's no matter how I used them. got me stumped.

I am currently going through a little slump myself. My situation sucks because people in my boat are catching them and I'm not!!! Oh well.
I don't really know what to type here.

Yea, everybody posts that there tearing them up, giving me the complex. It was so bad two weeks ago when a crew of four (one child) were catching hybrids one after another right next to me!! Using live bait. I had to move before committing an act of self destruction!

Dan, We were out Monday from 8am to noon fishing a drop off close to the dam. We started pulling them up steady sometimes two at a time for about an hour and then the bite went away. We were fishing slabs with a fly on top and it was somewhat random as to which one they hit. We were in 30-40 ft and they were close to the bottom. We only managed 20 small sandies with a couple of undersized Hybrids. This same spot yielded 60 the week before at the same time so clearly the bite was off on Monday. We didn't see any active birds or anything schooling.

Dan, Rudy and I were out Friday and we found that the fish were moving alot. It's took some work to find them but when you found them they would bite. You had to keep on the move cause if you caught a couple out of a school they would vanish like a ghost. We had the same thing on Ray Roberts Yesterday.

I will offer my opinion,
The Hybrids are in the breaks from 20-35ft of water and they travel and work the channel that runs across from twin trees to 121 cut. they will also run east towards the coves and the points along the way. They will also run the channel towards the 35 bridge and humps in Hickory creek are productive The flats close to the channel will also sometimes hold fish. The fishing has been really good and then really bad for extended times during the total day. I have found the 2nd shift to be the best right now. They have alot of easy food available. Timing has alot to do with it.
It is why they call it fishing and not catching all the time.
Hope this is of some help! Do not be discourage they are sometimes feeding aggressively and will hit anyhting and then sometimes only bait.
Slabs will work if they are off the bottom I have found that if they are bunched up on the bottom bait is your best option.
I feel that sometimes the hybrids are a bye product of bring mixed in with lots of sandbass for alot of people that fish the lake and switching to a larger bait will slow down the catching but the hybrids will come with it.If you target just hybrids the numbers will sometimes be 4-10 fish.Sometimes you will het a home run and get big numbers.
Sometimes a smaller bait is what they are chasing and changing the opposite direction to small works. The sandies will tell you what bait size is in the area.
They move alot they can not stay still, locked gill plate like a striper so you have to kinda follow the flow go in the direction that make the most sense.Look for signs on the water like bait flickering or surfacing fish here or there and follow and use your electronics. If you mark good fish and catch one there are more around find them and some days you will just have the mojo other days it doesnt come together.
I like points with deep water access close like twin trees there are 5 or 6 other places that are the same.
I believe channels and structure are the two biggest things you have to have to find them regularly.
shad are up shallow and around the grass and some nice ones it is a messy job right now to get in them with a net in the lake but the marinas are still holding some especialy the Marina on the old lake side.
Bait keep th bait above the fish do not go below them they seem to bite better coming up.
slabs watch you line and the drop is where alot of fish hit on slabs...
if they are grouped on the side of a hump I like to use a swim bait and work it up the side of the hump slowly ..
good luck!

Great info.. I'd print this out and keep it on the boat so when you are having one of those days you can refer back to it... Way to go Trent...

Tbarnes065- Excellant post!! I cannot thank you enough! It is amazing that you would share such exact information to be viewed by all. I think I can speak for anyone who reads this post. I will keep this with me, and I hope I get the chance to thank you in person. I drive a little 17' Pro-team 175 basstracker with a 50HP merc on the back. I usually fish by myself every weekend. Once again, thank you and your passion to fish and share your experiance with other devout anglers!!
Pete- Have'nt seen you in awhile, good to hear from you. If this weather lets up, I'm out fishing!!

That just goes to show you what kind of guy Trent is. Just think what you could learn by booking an afternoon trip with him. Hey Trent, When do you have an opening? I want some of your Mojo.
