So I visited one of my favorite spring time spots this evening. I had been there for about 20 minutes when a Grand Prairie officer walked down and told me I had to leave. He said the people up in the neighborhood where I parked didn’t want people parking in their hood to go fishing.
Now hear me out. I parked at the end of a circle where there are no houses. The houses end right where the circle begins so I’m not in front of anyone’s house. This is a public street and there is not a no parking sign anywhere in sight.
After being told to leave I expressed to the officer, I was not trying to be a jerk but last year other officers had been called down by these neighbors. Every officer expressed that since this was a public street as long as we parked legally we were fine and could park and fish at anytime.
I fully respect law enforcement, they have a difficult job and put up with a lot of [censored]. However this gentleman rubbed me the wrong way. He simply replied that the people who called in does not want anyone on their streets so I needed to leave. My first impulse was to tell him if he wanted me to leave he could call a game warden and have him tell me that, as I was on Army Core of Engineer land.
I bit my tongue and let him know I would leave shortly. I had caught a few but they weren’t in there in numbers so why escalate the situation.
Most of you are more up to date with the regs. What are your thoughts on this.
Btw I found my work around. I visited one of the houses nearest to where I parked and introduced myself. The owner of the house was extremely friendly and invited me to park closer to her house and to fish when ever I wanted.

As the old saying goes, "there's two ways to skin a cat". You made a new friend, got a parking space and avoided confrontation with an over zealous police officer (which wright or wrong would have ended up with your arrest/fine). You done good!

WTG you found a way to resolve that problem . that dick. hopeyou remember his name/badge #. Btw I am pretty sure that would constitute angler harassment, [which is against the law] I know hs is a officer, but hey. Think if it were me I would contact tpw and find out who is g. warden in the area talk to him, explain, & get his cell#.Then If cop confronts you again I would speed dial g.w. Good luck hope you catch a pile. Maybe G.W. 's are monitoring this site

I would be giving that lady that allowed me to park at her house some bags of delicious crappie fillets. That should guarantee future parking privileges.

To avoid future problems for you and anyone else going there, go to the PD and inquire from a sergeant about the laws fishing and parking there. Save his name for future. You could even go so far as to file a complaint. They can research the officer’s name and go from there. In the future I’d suggest you ask the officer respectfully if I don’t leave what would you arrest me for. Have him cite the actual code then go and research it. Personally, I wouldn’t have left unless told the crime I was committing.

I am only doing this to help you

It does not matter that the residents do not want you to park in front of their house. You can legally park in front of my house and I can park in front of your house. As long as you were not in a fire lane, not within 15' of a fire hydrant, not within 30' of a stop sign, and your inside wheels were within 18" of the curb, you are fine. I would just ask the officer if there were any laws or ordinances that you were violating. When he says no just tell him thank you and go back to fishing. Good move getting the homeowners permission though.

I knew I would get some great advise here thanks guys. There’s a couple of really good ideas on here. I think I will pay a visit to the pd for their clarification just to be safe.
