They were speaking the truth, but you said "no way are you doing that". You even asked if he was being sarcastic about that. If you can't take the good advice that is given to you on here, then why even ask the question? People are giving you good advice, and you refuse to take it. perhaps he is wanting to put his kid on fish himself without a guide, probably a "dad" thing. no need to call him cheap or arrogant.

guide is an option and getting all the suggestions he can then put a plan together is another, not doing one or the other does not make him cheap or arrogant. I would say self determined.

Drive all the way up into little caney and fish your way out, find how far back they are/check water temp and cover then replicate it in other similar areas.

Get up shallow and throw a chatterbait as mentioned. Cover water in the backs of warmer creeks. Temps should be rising steadily now

What color chatterbait would you suggest ?

There are many good areas to catch fish during early March on Lake Fork. Fish the shallow water pockets and flats in the back 1/2 of major creeks on the northern 1/2 of the lake in order to find the warmest water temperatures and more active bass. During this period on Lake Fork a lot of largemouth have moved onto the flats or are suspending near submerged timber over deeper water near spawning areas. In stained water I like to use search baits like a red/orange colored squarebill crankbait or white/chartreuse colored chatterbait in 4-8'. If it's a windy day I will often fish the southern 1/2 of the lake where the water will be a bit colder but generally cleaner. A slowly twitched jerkbait or shad colored swimbait reeled slowly over 6-12' of water on secondary points, creek channel edges, and areas with timber can work great. Dragging a 3/8-1/2 oz jig very slowly around creek channel edges that cut through expansive spawning flats across the entire lake can produce some big bass catches. Somedays the action will be quite slow until the sun warms the water and fish will very actively begin feeding. Good luck fishing, I hope this helps.

This is still Lake Fork we're talking about. There's a 7lb fish sitting everywhere on that lake. Just because "600 of the best in Texas" couldn't do it, doesn't mean that it can't be done. Main Lake and secondary points, c-rig and jigs, and have some fun with your son. If it doesn't happen you still had a great time with your kiddo.

But, no one said 600 of the best in Texas couldn't catch one of the 7lb fish sitting everywhere... 7lb bass are rarely overs, so I like to think that the anglers are like me; typically not targeting areas where a bunch of slot fish are stacked up!

Luckily, with the fishing as bad as it was for the proper fish, I wasn't there; I was on Palestine with MBC!

We had a great trip in my opinion we caught several good slot fish and a few unders. Most fish we caught in1-6 feet of water. Tried to find isolated trees and stumps. The biggest fis my son caught was 7-11 healthy toad. I caught several from 4- just under 6 lbs. senko were key chatter bait was good at times. The lake is very hard on the boat I scratched the hell out of rig... good time overall though.

My son has been fishing buddy since he was 2. Yes he just turned 26 but he’s still my little fishing buddy. If you have kids hopefully you understand. I would still love to get him on a 10 pounder. That quote in my sig is what 11 years old?... it says what I want to say. “Take a kid fishing” that is the future of our sport.
