Ok I have been catfishing three days in the last two weeks. Now on one trip I caught 3 , another trip I caught 2 and a crappie, and yes I blanked a day also. I realize I am no guide or even a decent fisherman but I do catch loads of fish normally. I talked to some bass guys that told me they caught catfish that day on spinnerbsits in grass. So I went to grass in my normal catfish shallows and not a bite. I have a couple of areas where I located huge schools of small catfish fry. I walk along the lake in the summer trying to locate where the small hatch is hanging out and fish areas close by for my larger fish. I was an engineer but probably overthink fishing. So now my plan is to camp on top of my range cubes withStubbys cheese and not batting both eyes st the same time and when whiskies breatges on my bait he is getting jerked!! Man those half bites are driving me crazy. Now there are times when I feel them breath on my bait I can wait and they bite but not right now? Any suggestions welcome! I am now carrying a trash can full of soured grain for chum in my boat and have used range cubes and soured grain on my favorite holes. I had a guide on the lake tell me to keep feeding them and they will be there. Well the feed is there no doubt. Lol I may have to hang out with littlewheel and learn some more.

I would try earthworms to find the fish. then switch to cut bait for bigger fish. Fish a spot for about 30 minutes, then move to a new location if you are not getting bites. Water depth is very important at this time of year. Start in 25 feet and work your way shallower till you find the proper depth. Chumming is critical, but you can only move fish so far. If you are in an area with few fish, then over chumming will just fill them up. Keep trying and you will find them. Warmer, more consistent weather is on the way.
