Gas Buddy is a good app to load on your phone to show you the station prices in the area your in when you need to fill up.

Gas is like 1.86 to 1.91 in my area, shouldn't it be like 1.39 or so? It takes days not hours for the price of gas to catch up with the price of oil if it ever does. You also have lag at the stations on the way down. They will definitely take some profits on the way down. Actually it takes several days for gas prices to drop but only takes hours for prices to rise Always.

no the stock they have is already paid for at the higher price. They have to wait till they buy the cheaper gas to go down.

Could be a help to the economy across the country.
$1.50 a gallon gas might spur some people to spend more?
Hard for oil guys, but a way to buffer impacts from Corona? No way it helps the national economy. Along with oil dropping there will be 10s if thousands of jobs lost and not just in the direct oil industry. The Dow is already halted due to major drops and it is because of the oil price drops. Lower gas prices do not stimulate the economy in any way.i This oil going down a little maybe not to bad, dropping like this will shut down lots of companies. These companies once gone are not easy to get back up and going when price does comes back up. This can be a real bad thing if this last long enough to put the service companies out of business.

Not a good thing for the country +1 +2 Most of the country has little to no oil stocks or much in the way of a 401k, but almost all of them buy gas at least once a week. I’m not so sure this is correct. Personally I’ve got a decent size 401k but won’t cash it out for another 30-40 years, so the market reductions and gas reductions are a win for me. I do hate that so many jobs are affected, but you kind of know that when you get into that industry and the pay reflects it.

Hard for oil guys, but a way to buffer impacts from Corona? No way it helps the national economy. Along with oil dropping there will be 10s if thousands of jobs lost and not just in the direct oil industry. The Dow is already halted due to major drops and it is because of the oil price drops. Lower gas prices do not stimulate the economy in any way.i So hard for some folks to understand the macro issues. 9094 gets it. Let's talk micro then. Smith works as a porter, he makes $14 an hour. His wife works in an office, makes a bit less. They have two kids. Now the Smith family they just barely get by living paycheck-to-paycheck. So if they can save 50 or $60 a month on gasoline that makes a big difference to them. and because the Smiths suck with money they spend that money somewhere else. Probably at retail or on eating out etc. I guess I'm unclear on why that money is better spent on energy than anywhere else. I understand that lower energy prices are a symptom of a slowing economy. But I believe they are the symptom and not a cause in and of themselves. 9.8 Million jobs in the U.S. oil and gas industry and the industry makes up roughly 8 percent of the U.S. GDP. There better be an awful lot of those Smiths spending an extra $600/year to makeup for that many $100,000+ jobs(2014 average oilfield job was just over $100,000/year according to API). Tons of small towns all over the country have literally nothing going for them other than Oil and Gas. The restaurants, hotels, car dealers and grocery stores will suffer immensely, along with most other local oilfield-town businesses. On a larger scale, companies like Caterpillar, U.S. Steel, ArcelorMittal, and many banks often have downturns that follow oil and gas downturns. Wall Street and other investors who make capital available for oil and gas companies run a great chance of seeing capital accounts in default and projects not able to pay for themselves. Then many state governments lose a significant portion of their tax revenue. For example, Texas saw $94.76Billion in tax revenue in 2018, $14.03Billion of which came from the oil and gas industry. That's 15% of the state's revenue coming from one source. One source you seem to think can be replaced by you having an extra $50/month to spend on random products. Wishful thinking.

We had to swing the ax today, it always makes for a dismal week even though I have done it a few times over the years. I had some thank me for the work opportunity and ask me to let them know when things pick up. I had others call me a sorry SOB and some call me a racist. I let go of vendors that provided services we will do on our own now like mowing and other domestic services at our facilities. For those that think it only affects O&G guys, think again. I bet our lawn care guy will miss the $1200 a month we payed him, along with others that provided non O&G services.
