The Buttermilk thread got me to thinking, What other foods did your parents eat that you don't?
We used to eat Mush. Boiled and fried corn meal with black strap molasses.
We ate fried baloney and potted meat too.I haven't had any in years.
What was your parents go to food.My parents grew up during the depression . Dad would say "Poor folks got poor ways"

Spam. I'm rarely THAT hungry.
Fried mush actually sounds interesting enough to try once.

H2O I still love to eat Spam, Potted Meat, Vienna Sausages, Salmon Patties, Poke Salad (if I can find it), Chip (anything) on toast, plus what I call Rat Cheese and Saltine crackers with baloney. Add to the list Pinto beans with Cornbread with Cornbread in sweet Milk, Liver and Onions, fried Gizzards, and every now and then some boiled Okra. Did you know that Spam now comes in individual slices where all you have to do is put it in between two slices of bread with some mustard?
Have to be honest and tell you all of the above is when I am eating by myself because I have a spoiled wife.

Fried baloney sandwiches. Now that brings back memories. Grew up eating a lot of turnips that we grew & greens. Not eating turnips anymore but love the greens.
