I'm looking for a good Kayak for shark fishing at the coast. I'm a big guy looking at the Ocean Kayaks at BPS. Any one have any input on these being stable? I dont want to tip over with the jelly fish and sharks. The Cobia I want is way to much$1,200. So I found the Oceans for $800. Any in put on these.

you should check out www.texaskayakfisherman.com there is always something used on there. One of your best bets is going to be Cobra Fish n Dive or an Ocean Kayak Scrambler. Ocean kayaks have been around for forever. The only kayak I ca say to avoid is going to be the Pelican's. They are going for playing around in but I would not use one for surf fishing.

I have an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 and I can stand up while paddling. I hear the Big Games are even more stable, but I like my Prowler.

If you are thinking about the surf DO NOT get a Big Game. NOt much bow raise on it and it is no good in the surf!

Look into Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game, Wilderness Systems Ride 135, Malibu's X-Factor, and Cobra's Fish and Dive. These are the big boy kayaks. If you have any questions just shoot me a PM.

Yes I will be surf fishing. Its was cobra not cobia I was thinking of.

If you are strictly talking about BTB fishing then there is not much question that the Cobra FnD is the way to go. If you are like me and looking for a boat that can fish lakes all day with the occasional trip to the coast then I would check out the Cobra Marauder.

I need one just for fishing the surf. I've got a Blue Wave boat.

My significant other has a Scrambler XT and does great in the surf with it. He loves it!

Ahh that was a fun day. The scrambler xt (speck) is a great boat. I have it rigged with fish finder and rod holders. I have taken it thru 3 -4 ft waves and no problem other than a bit wet. The bow just pops you to the top of the wave and over. It surfs in great too.
