Things change rapidly this time of year. Not saying it will but it's a low number but big bite time.

I've hired a guide many times then take my boat other days. There are some really good guides that are really fun to fish with. I go a quite a bit and have been humbled many times by Fork. Last trip, 3 fish in 2 days! But, there is always that chance(which keeps me going back). Good luck!

You’d be better off taking him to Squaw creek

Haven’t been on the lake in 13 years and want to put your son on a big one? Leave the boat at home and hire a guide.
600 of the best anglers in Texas didn’t get an over on Saturday. It’ll warm up some but the cold night and rain will keep them finicky. Good luck.
Main lake points. Seriously, Hire a guide? Hopefully, you are just being sarcastic. I won't be hiring a guide. Unfortunately, I booked this trip a few months ago or I would probably cancel. I will take my chances with my lack of knowledge. Thank you for the main lake points tip. No he is not being sarcastic. The lake is way different than it was 13 years ago. Hiring a guide is your best chances of getting your son on a big fish unless you are a super angler and can get him on one. Sounds to me like you are just arrogant or cheap and don't want to hire a guide. You can explain to your son why you couldn't put him on a giant after your trip. “Arrogant or cheap” how the hell do you make that assumption from my comments on a public Internet forum? You know nothing about me. You sound like a troll.

[quote=hopalong]got boatlanes on your graph?
back of birch, back of little caney, far north end on either side or glade on east side would be good starting points. 2 weeks ago west side on north end was only 47*, dropped about 10* due to late cold fronts. should be warming back up some this week.
^^this^^ Throw some chatterbaits and seniors real shallow. There are some still there, but it has been pretty slow.

Keep driving right past Fork and head to Rayburn or Toledo Bend. Fork has to turn on at some point, but even those guides everyone is pushing you tword are struggling to catch decent fish with any consistency. Maybe your weekend will be the one where it breaks loose. Good luck!

If it's a struggle, head to Lake Welsh and it should be a little better. That's what a lot of Fork guides do when it's really bad at Fork

Lake is pretty dirty and cool. Fish typical prespawn stuff (creek bends, points, flats, etc) and you'll be fine. If the sun shines the normal shallow north ends will warm up, right now there's not a lot of difference from one end to the other minus a few areas that have warmer water. Obviously for out of towners the challenge is moving around to find fish that are biting and that's where a guide helps. Typical baits, chatterbaits and spinnerbaits are working on the prime days and carolina rigs, texas rigs and weightless rigs if they won't bite moving baits. Wind can have a big impact as well so plan accordingly.

The creeks are starting to warm up nicely... Wolf, Mustang, Williams are all good places to throw traps, Chatterbaits and T-rigs.

People suggested your best chance of putting your son on a "giant" at Fork would be to hire a guide. They were speaking the truth, but you said "no way are you doing that". You even asked if he was being sarcastic about that. If you can't take the good advice that is given to you on here, then why even ask the question? People are giving you good advice, and you refuse to take it. If that isn't arrogant, what do you call it?

Get you a half dozen Roman Made Mother’s and slow roll them off points with timber. Your boy will catch a PB and you will have a memorable trip.
