My dad and I went to lunch yesterday with the oldest guy in his assisted living facility. His name is Billy and he turns 100 this December. He was crew on a B-29 in WW II. He gets around with a walker and his brain is still very sharp - he has a great memory. It was very cool to break some bread with him.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Those guys are living history books. Talked to one a while back that was in artillery during WW2 in the Pacific theater. Sharp as a tack and getting around pretty good with a walker. He could tell some interesting stories.
If you know someone from that era, take the time to visit with them. They really appreciate the fellowship. They are becoming few and far between.

Working at a VA Hospital, I get to talk with them often. I consider it a privilege every time.
