Aren't low oil prices bad for everyone?

Until cheap gas upends the entire economy. Then, about 25% of the population will be out of work. A gallon or two will last those poor souls a week.

Ok, 25% is ridiculous. 5%-10% sudden unemployment would crush our economy in the US and much of the world. Energy is down 32% in the last week. Any idea how many billions that sucks out of 2020-21 Capex budgets? Low gas prices are great. For a month or so. Then the macro picture begins to come into focus.

I bet as more electric vehicles hit the road, we'll see gas drop to $1.25 and maybe eventually below $1.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

When I was a kid growing up many many years ago gas was .79 a gallon. When I first got my driver's license gas was below a dollar a gallon and during the good old days when there was a "Gas War" the prices were around .60 to .70 a gallon! breakdance

The first time I bought gas it was for a push lawn mower.
My first job.
36 cents a gallon.
A few years later I was old enough to drive and gas was $1.18 a gallon.
Point is it can drop like a rock and go up like a rocket.
And it does. And it will.

I don’t want to wake up.

I sure hope you are right about a buck a gallon.

worked at a DX station in high school, only station on a busy corner, gas probably avgd 25c a gallon, I could fill up my 62 falcon for less than 5$ and that lil 170 2 speed would sip on it for a week or better. think the tank held 12-15 gal.

we did full service back then, oil, air, windshield and GREENSTAMPS! the good ole days.

I was a top-notch windshield cleaner back in the day, if you know what I mean

Gas is cheap now of day. Factor in that cars get almost 3 times the mpg gas is about 40 cents a gallon compared to when I was buying gas for my first car back in the early 80's. We paid $1.00 per gallon but our cars like my Monte Carlo got around 10 mpg.
